Dolores Ashkar was born in Portland, Oregon, near the Bullseye Glass Company. It is there that she learned everything she needed to know about glass as an artistic medium. Dolores established Zeekdog Studios, her glass jewelry line over 30 years ago.
Dolores’ earrings are made of dichroic fused glass and titanium wire or surgical steel posts. The use of dichroic glass allows the artist to display two different colors and therefore allows the earrings to be flipped, providing two different views. The glass undergoes a color change in certain lighting conditions or shifting angles due to stacked layers of glass, metals, and oxides. The resulting glass is used for decorative purposes such as stained glass and jewelry, and although bearing the commercial title of “dichroic,” it can often display three or more colors and iridescence.
